What turns me into a happy dancing machine? A fast & easy knit top made from super comfortable cotton lycra tissue jersey knit. This kind of fabric is perfect for the hot and humid summers in Maryland.
Love my new top!
I made my version longer than the pattern called for.
The pattern came from the book Drape Drape 2 by Hisako Sato.
The patterns are not very large. I traced off the largest size (XL) even though my measurements are larger than what they consider an XL. I hoped the oversized nature of the design would be forgiving, and it was.
I pinned the tissue together at the shoulder seams - and I got the impression that it would be way too short unless I added length. I used the book as a rough guide to add a very large chunk of fabric.
Based on past experience, I know I'll need to alter the placement and shape of shoulder seams. With just a little fiddling, I came up with a couple of darts that corrected the shoulder seam and didn't mess up the design too much.
I bought this batch of fabric last Monday morning when it was on sale at Fabric Mart. I was amused to see that Carolyn and I selected a couple of the same pieces!
I cracked up when I saw Carolyn's post.
As far as the fabric on the dress form, I will sew a simple little unlined jacket for summer.
That little fabric purchase was perfectly timed - it was on sale and exactly what I wanted for summer - lucky me! I think the summer of 2013 will be the summer of easy patterns. Sometimes it is nice to have a constraint - it forces creativity. Right now, my time is tight and easy patterns will save the day.
Hope you are finding a good reason to dance like a silly fool. It feels good.
Happy sewing my friends!
